The Kidney Check project, one of Can-SOLVE CKD’s 18 research projects, is part of a national program which will be run in several provinces. In BC, the project will be conducted in partnership the First Nations Health Authority. It is a province-wide project aimed at provided kidney health screening, triage, and treatment referral in selected First Nations communities.
The goal of this project is to establish a viable long-term kidney health wellness and disease screening and treatment program to reduce incidence of kidney health failure in First Nations communities. An understanding of and demonstrated respect of First Nations cultural principles and protocols, and being able to apply this understanding in work situations is an important component of this position.
The Kidney Check Project Nurse will work in collaboration with the Kidney Check Project Coordinator, to coordinate and implement the project in BC. He/she will perform nursing duties, work collaboratively with local community health teams and provide training and mentorship to these teams to develop on-site capacity to conduct the program.
