The Can-SOLVE CKD Network is saddened by the recent passing of Darrell Ross Jr. (Yemchiss), a member of the Tseshaht First Nation. Darrell was a dedicated advocate for Indigenous health and a committed member of the kidney health community. His compassion, generosity, and commitment to supporting others were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Darrell had been a valued member of the Indigenous Peoples’ Engagement and Research Council (IPERC) since 2019, where he contributed his voice, experience, and perspective to help guide the network’s work in a good way. Through his involvement with BC Kidney Check, he supported efforts to raise awareness about kidney disease and improve access to screening and care in Indigenous communities.
Beyond his work with the network, Darrell was a Harm Reduction Outreach Worker and social justice advocate who cared deeply for those experiencing homelessness and supported individuals through addiction with compassion and without judgment. He brought this same spirit of care and advocacy into all aspects of his work, always centring community and connection.
We are deeply grateful to Darrell for his contributions to Can-SOLVE CKD and the communities he served. His presence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to others will be deeply missed.
