All of us across the Can-SOLVE CKD Network are saddened by the passing of Dennis McCann. Dennis was a generous and thoughtful patient partner and advocate in the kidney community. His commitment to improving the health of those living with kidney disease was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Dennis was a dedicated member of the Patient Governance Circle, sharing passionately on his experience of kidney disease and giving voice to important patient perspectives. As a member of the STOP-Med HD project, Dennis contributed to research that will improve the lives of people on hemodialysis. He also volunteered many hours to develop KidneyLink into a platform that will help patients and family members contribute to future research projects.

Beyond his work with Can-SOLVE CKD, Dennis was actively involved with the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC & Yukon Branch, serving as a board member. He also spent more than 10 years as a patient partner with BC Renal, helping to shape kidney care and research in BC and beyond. We are deeply grateful to Dennis for his selfless service to the kidney community and we will miss him dearly.

Feeling the loss of Dennis, as a patient partner it stings thinking this could be me.
Condolences to his family and the Can- Solve team.
Sincerely,

Robert Buzinski

I did not know Dennis but it sounds like he did a wonderful job for the “kidney disease community”. It is a group that needs informal direction as to ways in which those affected can benefit from passing on their experience in living with the disease. Important to have strategic personal input to the research being pursued by medical staff in the sphere and those researchers developing the science towards more understanding.
