Our biweekly update keeps you informed on our network projects and initiatives! Below are a few highlights. Make sure to check out the latest issue below.
Celebrating Black excellence and advancing inclusion
At Can-SOLVE CKD, we recognize that inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility are not just seasonal themes, but must be cornerstones of our work year round. However, Black History Month offers a timely opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the historical and contemporary contributions and achievements of Black Canadians.
Kidney health survey for African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities
Did you know that Black people in Canada are disproportionately affected by kidney disease and high rates of kidney failure? Together with the Black Health Alliance and the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Can-SOLVE CKD is working on an educational webinar series tailored to the interests and needs of ACB communities, and we are seeking input from people who identify as members of those communities.
Advancing cultural safety through a new Circle of Practice
Indigenous leaders at Can-SOLVE CKD, through the Indigenous Peoples’ Engagement and Research Council (IPERC), have cultivated a culture rooted in Two-Eyed Seeing, integrating Indigenous and Western knowledge. With a new grant, they are expanding their efforts beyond the network by creating a Circle of Practice to advance cultural safety initiatives in mainstream health research.
