June 6, 2025
Our biweekly update keeps you informed on our network projects and initiatives! Below are a few highlights. Make sure to check out the latest issue below.
Celebrating Indigenous voices and knowledge
June is National Indigenous History Month—a time to honour the history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
Can-SOLVE CKD is committed to working with Indigenous patient partners, Knowledge Keepers, community leaders, academics, and health care providers to ensure the best kidney health outcomes, while ensuring Indigenous knowledge and perspectives are reflected across our research projects and governance.
Throughout the month of June, we will be highlighting Indigenous initiatives at the Can-SOLVE CKD Network on our social media channels and in a special edition of our newsletter ahead of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21. We look forward to celebrating the voices, leadership, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis partners in our network.
We encourage network members to learn about events happening in their community, where they can learn and celebrate the rich cultures and histories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
Bridging the gap between mental health and dialysis care
Many people on in-centre hemodialysis experience mental health challenges, but support can be hard to find. Mind the Gap, a Can-SOLVE CKD research project co-led by patient partners, is changing that. Learn how this research team is planning to bring mental health counselling directly to patients during dialysis sessions, and why patient partners are key to making care more compassionate and responsive.
Coming Soon: Kidney health webinar for Black communities
Black Canadians are disproportionately affected by chronic kidney disease, yet often lack access to culturally relevant information and care.
That’s why the Can-SOLVE CKD Network, Black Health Alliance, and the Kidney Foundation of Canada are partnering to present a free two-part webinar series focused on kidney health for Black communities in Canada.
The first webinar will share practical information on reducing the risk of kidney disease, getting tested (even without a family doctor), and navigating the Canadian health system. You’ll hear directly from Black health care providers and community members about how to advocate for your health and find the support you need.
