Our biweekly update keeps you informed on our network projects and initiatives! Below are a few highlights. Make sure to check out the latest issue below.
World Kidney Day 2025 wrap-up
As March comes to a close, we look back on the observance of World Kidney Day (WKD) on March 13 and Kidney Health Month. If you missed it, our special WKD newsletter is now online, featuring stories and resources that focus on this year’s theme: “Are Your Kidneys OK? Detect early, protect kidney health.”
Thank you to our network members for your ongoing work to raise kidney health awareness — this month and throughout the year.
Get involved in Organ Donation Awareness Month
Do you have your green shirt ready? April is Organ Donation Awareness Month, and April 7 is Green Shirt Day, a day to raise awareness for organ donation in honour of Humboldt Broncos defenceman Logan Boulet. When Boulet passed after the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in 2018, his parents fulfilled his wish to be an organ donor, leading to an unprecedented number of Canadians registering to become organ donors.
You can be part of what is now known as the “Logan Boulet Effect”. It takes just a couple of minutes to register as an organ donor, and this simple action has the potential to save lives. Go to GreenShirtDay.ca to learn more or visit this Government of Canada page to find out how to register as an organ donor in your province or territory.
Building bridges through anti-racism training
How can we help to create safer, more equitable health care spaces for Indigenous people? Members of the Can-SOLVE CKD Network recently took part in an anti-racism training event in Quebec, where researchers, trainees, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers explored this important question. From raw conversations to practical steps for change, the gathering sparked ideas for future collaborations.
