New funding secured for Can-SOLVE CKD Phase 2 extension
We’re thrilled to share that Can-SOLVE CKD has secured $2 million from CIHR to support our Phase 2 extension work. We also raised $3.9 million in cash and in-kind donations from our generous partners, bringing our total funding for 2026-28 to nearly $6 million.
This outcome truly reflects a collective effort, and we are deeply grateful to everyone across the Can-SOLVE CKD Network who contributed their time, insight, and expertise to our application for CIHR funding — from research teams and patient partners to staff, collaborators, and funding partners.
During the extension, we’ll focus on implementing research findings, mobilizing knowledge, and strengthening capacity for patient-oriented research across Canada—turning evidence into meaningful change for people living with kidney disease.
This is a major milestone for our network and a strong vote of confidence in our work as we enter our tenth year. Together, we’ve built something meaningful. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
5 insights from Black voices that should shape kidney care in Canada
Black people in Canada face disproportionately higher rates of kidney disease, yet many are diagnosed at later stages. In partnership with the Black Health Alliance and the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Can-SOLVE CKD hosted a webinar series focused on protecting Black kidney health and supporting greater representation from Black patient partners in kidney research. In recognition of Black History Month, we’re highlighting five key takeaways from those conversations.
Can-SOLVE CKD showcases research at World Kidney Day event
Can-SOLVE CKD will be presenting at the Roy & Vi Baay Research Event on March 12, 2026, in recognition of World Kidney Day. This event is hosted by the University of Calgary, School of Community Nephrology Research Group.
Selina Allu, Knowledge Translation Broker and Implementation Support Practitioner, will present two posters: “Strategic visioning of the Canadian CKD Clinic Network: Transformative dialogue through the World Café method” and “From audit to action: Mapping Can-SOLVE CKD’s IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) journey”.
This is an in-person event only. If you’re attending, be sure to stop by and connect with Selina during the poster session between 2:30 – 3:45 pm MT.
