On July 2, 2025, the Can-SOLVE CKD Network co-presented Protecting Black Health: Kidney Disease Prevention and Early Detection—a free, online event designed to support kidney health in Black communities across Canada.
Black Canadians face a higher risk of developing kidney disease, yet many don’t receive a diagnosis until the illness is advanced. This 75-minute webinar provided practical, culturally relevant information to help participants understand their risk, recognize the importance of early detection, and take proactive steps to protect their kidney health.
Led by Black health professionals and people living with kidney disease, the session included a live Q&A and shared tips on how to talk to health care providers about kidney function and risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sickle cell disease, and lupus.
