BC Kidney Check is entering a new chapter.

The Can-SOLVE CKD Network is pleased to share that Dr. Anurag Singh has been appointed project lead of the program, which currently brings culturally safe, community-driven mobile kidney screening directly to more than 15 First Nations communities in British Columbia.

“I’m honoured to join the BC Kidney Check team,” says Dr. Singh. “I’m looking forward to deepening existing partnerships, expanding our reach across Northern BC, and ensuring that early detection and prevention efforts continue to make a real difference in the communities that need them most.”

Under his strategic leadership, BC Kidney Check will also enhance patient-oriented research approaches. Dr. Singh brings deep experience in Indigenous health partnerships and community-based research, with a strong commitment to advancing equitable access to health screening and care across Northern BC. His work in rural and remote communities—bridging gaps in access and health care delivery—closely aligns with BC Kidney Check’s mission.

Based in Prince George, Dr. Singh is a consulting nephrologist with Northern Health and an Assistant Professor in the UBC Faculty of Medicine at the Northern Medical Program. His proposal for The Hybrid Care Research Collaborative: A Rural Health Research Incubator, co-led with UBC Chair in Rural Health, Dr. John Pawlovich, was recently awarded one of six grants for 2025 from the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Strategic Investment Fund. The project reflects Dr. Singh’s longstanding commitment to advancing innovative, collaborative models of care in underserved regions.

Dr. Singh also holds an affiliate appointment with the Division of Medical Sciences at UNBC. In addition, he serves as Medical Director of Kidney Services at Northern Health and Director of the tri-partite (UBC–NHA–UNBC) Northern Centre for Clinical Research.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Singh to the network in this new role,” says Heather Harris, Can-SOLVE CKD Executive Director. “Kidney Check demonstrates what’s possible when research, community priorities, and culturally safe approaches are aligned. We look forward to its continued growth and impact in communities across British Columbia.”
